SUNDAY STROLL–August 31–Changing of the Seasons August 31, 2008

Ready or not, it is quite evident that summer is fast-forwarding into fall as I stroll through the farm on this last day of August!  Many of us are so consumed with back-to-school schedules, that we barely have time to notice!

The beautiful, bright, summery hues of flowing pansies

are soon replaced by the budding colors of autumn mums . . .

The Macoun apples are ripening on the trees . . .

The pear tree boughs are laden with golden-green fruit . . .

. . . and the goose squash (aka birdhouse gourds) are peeking out from under  leafy vines. . .

These funny-looking gourds always make for great conversation pieces!

Corn-on-the-cob is still in abundance and soon we’ll be thinking about decorating with these leafy, dried cornstalks in the pumpkin patch!

To see who else is strolling on this last day of August, visit Sunday Strolls at The Quiet Country House.

I love the harvest-theme to this post. My little pear tree boughs aren’t that heavily laden, but we have been eating “Luscious” pears for the last week or two and will soon be eating “Bosc.” What a beautiful site your drooping pear boughs make! I’ll bet that long row of mums is amazing when it is in full bloom!
