Duke’s Other Talents . . . August 23, 2009

Not only is Duke a “farm dog,” he also goes to work every day with my DH on our construction site jobs.  He LOVES visiting with the guys during coffee breaks and at lunch time, and during that time, I guess he’s refined some more of his talents .

Just watch . . .

Seems that Duke can unscrew the top off any bottle.  Even though he has a big fresh bowl of water on the job at all times, he prefers the “social-ability” of joining the guys in cold water breaks in a more human fashion.  I told you he thinks he’s a person!

Oh, yes, he can also open the door at home to let himself out.  The only problem (especially in winter) is that he doesn’t CLOSE it after himself.  More on that another time . . .

Do tell about your animals that think they’re humans, too.  I’d love to hear your stories!

Good dog! What a clever fellow.

How funny – he looks like a very entertaining dog. I even shared his corn eating with Brian over dinner last night, he was cracking up.

Oh, I don’t have any really great new stories about our pets except that they continue to be their funny selves. Yesterday my Mom washed her hands and sat at the kitchen table to wait for the next round of canning peaches. She really didn’t want to pet Baxter (the cat) since her hands were clean. So of course he runs to her and puts his front feet on her legs and stares at her. Meows obnoxiously. She talks to him sternly and he puts his paw up on her arms as if to say “hush”. Then he ran away from her and slid sideways like a snowplow, pushing the towel I had just laid out on the floor (to catch the sticky juice) into a big pile. I wish I had a video to share. You must be good at catching those moments!

How cute but tell Duke BPA is bad and his human friends need to get him a stainless steel bottle of his own to learn to open haha. That would be a good going green ad. 🙂

My goldens did some cute things like that. Very smart dogs! Right now I have a Great Pyrenees which are smart but she was abused and so not the easiest dog in the world to train. She does know things like to wait for her food until I tell her to eat, to go in her kennel when I tell her to, shake, sit, lay down, stay (sorta), and things like that but no cute tricks yet.
