Fast Friends June 24, 2009

We’re so delighted that Annabelle, our huge Shire, has taken a liking to some of the “little guys” in the barnyard.  Annabelle and Whinny, our mini-horse, hit it off right away.  After all, they are in the same horse family, more or less.

But what is so absolutely sweet to see is that Annabelle (Mom-to-be) has also taken a shining to our Baby Bull, even showing a bit of a maternal side, protecting Baby Bull from the llamas, who aren’t always so nice to him.  Perhaps Annabelle is practicing for what’s to come?

As I stood in the rain taking these photos today, sometimes I feel like, OMG, this could be the barnyard in “Charlotte’s Web.”  How lucky are we?

Sunday Stroll: Walk with my Valentine/s February 15, 2009

I took advantage of the thaw today to get in a stroll with my Valentines, both the two-legged and four-legged kind!

The wooded trail along the river was beautiful— and mostly without snow today!

Of course, Duke had to stop to take a drink from the brisk, cold river.

We saw some interesting sights along the way . . .

Duke stops for another drink with the workhorses, as we stop to feed them.

Buds on the forsythia show the promise of spring.  I couldn’t resist plucking a few to bring inside to force open.  I just love the happy yellow of this early flower!

All in all, it was a great day for a stroll with my Valentine!
